Adoption Assistance is a benefit that provides financial assistance for parents who choose to adopt, $5,000 per adopted child, which is intended to assist with such expenses as legal services, family studies, adoption related travel expenses, or cover other expenses incurred as a result of the adoption. Before-tax Transit Benefit Option and Parking & Shuttle Service

To ease the cost of your commute to work, the Lurie Children’s pre-tax transit benefit option lets you set aside pretax dollars from your paycheck to help pay for monthly parking or transit costs. It’s easy and flexible.

Transit – for transportation to/from work on Metra, RTA, CTA/Ventra, Pace and even the Lurie Children’s shuttle.

Parking – for commercial garages near your train/bus stop or close to your worksite (but not for Lurie Children’s garages).

How it works

Enroll

Enroll and manage your account on the HealthEquity / WageWorks website or by calling 877.924.3967.

Contribute

Decide the amount you want to contribute, and the money is deducted from your paycheck, before taxes are taken out.

How much

You can elect to contribute up to the monthly IRS limit of $315 for transit and $315 for parking.

Deadline

Make changes by the 10th of the prior month for the new deduction to be effective the following month.

You can set up change orders on a monthly basis or set up a recurring order on an ongoing basis.

Lurie Children’s provides numerous employee discounts to help make certain purchases more affordable and convenient for you. As an employee, you and dependent children receive a 50% discount on hospital services after insurance coverage. You can also receive 5% below the average wholesale price for drugs on the hospital formulary. Employee Referral Program

Employees like you are our most valuable resource in attracting outstanding talent to the company. When you refer quality candidates to Lurie Children’s, you’re not only helping strengthen our business, but also gaining the opportunity to earn a cash award.

We value and reward our employees for their recruiting efforts. All hospital employees (with the exception of Human Resources, Chiefs, Vice Presidents, Executive Directors/Senior Directors, physicians and temporary employees) are eligible to participate in our Employee Referral Program.

Any employee referring a person who is hired for a position regardless of FTE status will be rewarded. An employee referring a person for an open position posted on our career site will receive an award of $500 (subject to taxes) paid out 90 days following the new hire's start date. Review the policy for more information.

How to refer an external applicant

Referring an external applicant is easy – just tell your friends or someone you know about the great opportunities available at Lurie Children’s. Encourage them to apply! They can apply online (click on the "Jobs" link in the footer on any page on the site). If the applicant's skills and qualifications meet the requirements of the open position and they are hired and you are listed on the application under the section "How did you hear about us,” or you referred the candidate in Workday, you will be given credit for making the referral. It’s that simple. 

There are two ways to enter a referral:

  1. The employee referring a person must follow the Workday “Refer a Candidate” process to add the referral to the open position. Instructions for the process can be found in the Common Favorites folder on your desktop (uPerform – ancileuperform.com).
  2. When the candidate is applying, they must provide the Lurie Children’s employees’ full name in the application. In the application the candidate will be asked “How did you hear about us?.” In the dropdown menu they need to select “Employee Referral” and they will be provided an additional text box where they will enter the employees’ full name or Lurie Children’s email address.

Lurie Children’s Scholarship Offering

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Lurie Children’s. The recipients of the “Children’s Children” Scholarship Program are selected on the basis of academic performance, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, work experience, a statement of career and educational goals and aspirations, unusual personal or family circumstance and an online recommendation.

Eligibility

Criteria for eligible recipients:

  • Dependent children, age 24 and under, of full and part-time employees budgeted at 20 hours or more per week. The employee must have a minimum of one-year employment with the hospital as of the deadline and still be an employee at the time of the award distribution.
  • High school seniors who plan to enroll or students who are already enrolled in full-time undergraduate study in the field of healthcare, at an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational/technical college for the entire upcoming academic year.

Awards

If selected as a recipient, an award will be granted to the child/student of an employee based on the employee’s status as follows:

  • Part-time (40 – 59 hours per pay period) = $1,500
  • Full-time (60 – 80 hours per pay period) = $3,000
