1. Enroll in health and voluntary benefits within 20 calendar days of hire

You have 20 days from your date of hire to enroll in your Lurie Children’s health and insurance benefits. If you do not take action, you won’t have coverage. Your next opportunity to enroll in benefits will be during our annual Open Enrollment, held each year in the fall, unless you experience a qualified life event, such as a birth or a marriage. We encourage you to explore this wellbeing portal to learn about your benefits, while also reviewing the 2024 Benefits Guide and 2024 Legal Notices.

Who can enroll in Lurie Children’s benefits?

All active regular full-time or part-time employees who are scheduled to work 20 or more hours per week are eligible to participate in Lurie Children’s benefits program. You may also cover your eligible dependents under Lurie Children’s medical, prescription, dental, vision, and life benefits.

Your eligible dependents include:

  • Your lawful spouse
  • Your own and/or spouse’s dependent child though the end of the month in which they turn 26
  • A child who you or your spouse are required to provide coverage for under a legal guardianship or court order
  • A child who is dependent upon you for lifetime care and supervision because of a disabling condition, regardless of age, as long as they were covered prior to reaching the limiting age

How to enroll

After reviewing your benefit options, make your enrollment selections within 20 days of your date of hire.

You have two easy ways to enroll — online or by phone.

  • Visit the Benefits' portal – Enroll online at your convenience, any time of day or night.
  • Call 312.227.5500 – Representatives are available to help you 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. (CT) M – F.
Important reminders!
  • Be sure to provide the necessary dependent information to enroll eligible family members.
  • Make sure you’ve provided beneficiary information for your life insurance.

2. Enroll in retirement benefits after you receive your first paycheck

You can invest for retirement with easy payroll deductions through TIAA. You are immediately eligible to enroll on your date of hire. If you don’t take any enrollment action — either enrolling or opting out — within 60 days of becoming eligible, you will be automatically enrolled, and 2% of your eligible before-tax pay will be invested in the Retirement Savings Plan 403(b). You may change your contribution rate and investment elections at any time.

3. Enroll in Health Equity / WageWorks starting 30 days after hire

You can visit the Health Equity / WageWorks to register and set up your pre-tax commuter orders. Orders must be set up by the 10th of the prior month. You can set up and change orders on a monthly basis or set up a recurring order on an ongoing basis. Available throughout the year, the monthly limit for transit and parking is $315 each.
